Degree Overview

As a health information technology (HIT) professional, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy, accessibility, quality and security of patient medical records. Your expertise in everything from information technology to the revenue cycle will provide an important service to patients as well as the efficiency of modern-day health information management (HIM) systems.

The Clarkson College Associate of Science in Health Information Technology degree option is offered 100 percent online and combines elements of health sciences, management, health information technology and business with practical lab experiences. You will learn skills in areas such as coding, billing, electronic health records, data analysis and reporting, legal compliance, and other technical processes that will prepare you for your role in health information management. Clarkson College has built early testing into the HIT curriculum, allowing you to take the national registry examination prior to graduating and earn the nationally recognized credential of Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT).

After obtaining an RHIT certification, many HIT professionals further their education with a   Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management (HIM) degree. Graduates of the HIM program then go on to sit for the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification exam to open up career opportunities at the administrative level of health information management.
