Clarkson College has not always been a college. Instead, we began in 1888 as a school of nursing—the first in the state of Nebraska. Over the last 125 years, we've established a new campus, expanded our program offerings and adopted a new name. All the while, we've maintained a commitment to preparing our students to be the best in various realms of health care. AlumniDr. Michael Witte serves as the Coordinator of Health and Wellness at Clarkson College, chair of the Wellness Committee, and member of the college Institutional Review board (IRB) committee.
Dr. Witte is a native of rural Nebraska and earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in Exercise Science and Athletic Training, and later his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Creighton University. He has also earned post-grad certificates in Healthcare Systems Administration (HSA) and Health Science Education and Leadership (HSEL). He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Functional Movements System (FMS) certified clinician and American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) credentialed clinical instructor.
Since joining the College in 2007, he has served for many years as faculty member, clinical coordinator and program director in the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program. Previously he served as vice-president of Clarkson College Faculty Senate from 2014-15 and the president from 2015-16. In addition, he was an Academic Travel Abroad (ATA) faculty member from 2015-2019, leading hospital and medical visits in: Ireland, France, Portugal/Spain, and Switzerland.
Dr. Witte's clinical background is in outpatient orthopedics and sports medicine in a private practice setting. During his career, he has had the opportunity to work with collegiate and professional athletes in many sports with emphasis on, track and field, Olympic power lifting, football, volleyball and speed training camps. Currently he is working toward community health and wellness initiatives in the community.
He is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), a member of the Nebraska chapter of the APTA (NE-APTA), National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and member of WELCOA, the wellness council of America.
