Resources for Clinical Faculty

The Clarkson College PTA program is grateful to all of our clinical affiliates and those who serve as center/site coordinators and/or clinical instructors. Our clinical faculty is instrumental in providing students opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills, in a clinical setting.

This page provides easy access to various documents and links to assist you in in this process. For additional resource documents and links, visit Resources & Links . If you are unable to find what you need from the provided resources, please contact us.

Introduction and Orientation of PTA Student

The following information is being provided to assist the SCCE/CI in knowing the Clarkson College PTA program expectations of when students should initiate contact and to provide guidelines to facilitate orientation of the PTA student both prior to and during the first week of the clinical experience.

Students are not allowed to contact sites until instructed by the Course Coordinator. Students will be expected to contact their CI, via telephone, unless otherwise directed, approximately three to four weeks prior to the start date of the clinical experience. In addition to the required communication, students will complete their Exxat Student Profile and Clinical Questionnaire, which will have been reviewed by the Course Coordinator, and be instructed to share their profile with the SCCE/CI prior to the clinical start date.

Helpful information to provide/discuss prior to clinical experience:

  • General information about the clinical facility
  • Directions and parking instructions
  • Dress code requirements
  • Meal options (e.g., microwave/fridge available, cafeteria, local restaurants, etc.)
  • Expected work schedule (e.g., hours/day, days/week, weekends, holidays, etc.)
  • Required training and/or onboarding requirements to be completed prior to arrival (e.g., policy and procedure documents, HIPAA training, mandatory in-services, HR needs, documentation account set-up, etc.)

Helpful information to provide/discuss on first day/week of clinical experience:

Students will be responsible for completing the Clinical Orientation Checklist by the designated due date within the first week. If possible, and not already scheduled, block out time at the beginning of the workday to complete the following items:

  • Review Clinical Orientation Checklist
  • Tour of facility/introductions to staff
  • Review student expectations of the facility, policy and procedure manual, etc.
  • Review Weekly Goal Sheet
  • Schedule midterm and/or final review time/s between CI and student
  • Confirm midterm and/or final call/visit(s) times between CI, student and Course Coordinator
  • Discuss preferred communication and feedback guidelines/expectations (immediate, set time of day, after each treatment, etc.)
