Clarkson College has not always been a college. Instead, we began in 1888 as a school of nursing—the first in the state of Nebraska. Over the last 125 years, we've established a new campus, expanded our program offerings and adopted a new name. All the while, we've maintained a commitment to preparing our students to be the best in various realms of health care. The Coronavirus and What We are Doing About It

As President of Clarkson College, I want to ensure our College community that we are monitoring the Coronavirus through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and our educational partnership with Nebraska Medicine.

As you have likely heard in the news, Nebraska Medicine and UNMC are working to contain the virus and stop it from spreading. As a partner of this global leader, we benefit greatly by being at the forefront of the most up-to-date information, guidance and planning. Jina Paul, Vice President of Operations, is collaborating directly with the UNMC Incident Command Team and receiving daily progress updates. The Clarkson College Executive Leadership Team is working closely with all of Nebraska Medicine and UNMC to ensure a safe learning and working environment for our students, faculty and staff.

Finally, as a lifelong nurse, I would be remiss if I didn’t share with you best practices to help prevent the spread of any virus including the flu and coronavirus.

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol if soap and water aren’t available
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands
Avoid close contact with people who are sick
Stay home when you’re sick
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
