This Infection Prevention course is designed to equip health care providers to recognize and take action against infections in various health care settings.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

  • Review the components of an infection prevention program.
  • Identify common health care associated infections, resistant organisms and problem infections.
  • Interpret current regulations and standards.
  • Describe methods of infection prevention and control in a variety of health care settings.
  • Discuss methods of surveillance, data analysis and infection rate calculation.


To provide current knowledge and skills necessary for infection preventionists to function effectively in various health care settings.

Target Audience

Nurses and other health care professionals dealing with infection prevention issues.

Course Length

Day 1 Overview session: Eight hours
Day 2 Long Term Care & Assisted Living Facilities session: Six and a half hours
Day 2 Hospital, Ambulatory Care & Surgical Centers session: Six and three quarter hours

Attendance to both day 1 and day 2 is not required.
